Rain

It rained last night as I fitted my fixed-gear with new full fenders. My excitement mounted as I awoke to the sound of rain this morning. I donned my very best wet weather gear with the addition of newspaper sacks on my feet.  I then set out. It was  sprinkling as I left the house and  I traveled through  varying levels of precipitation. As I was nearing work I realized that I had rain water streaming from my face, my grinin’ like an idiot face.

It was a good ride.

Bike Club Baiku

Here are some examples of bicycle based haiku. This was a “homework” assignment I gave to my bike club kids.

“Write a haiku about bikes” I said. “What is a haiku” they said. “5-7-5 syllables” I said. They said ummm ok….
Any way, four of them got one or more done and I came up with a couple.

Baiku

My bike is wicked

It has foot pegs on the wheels

I fly on my bike

_____________

My bike has cool wheels

My bike wheels have many spokes

A blur on the street

______________

Speeding super fast

Through the muddy grass

A big grass killer

______________

Serenity sweet

The breeze caresses my back

I’ll sweat later on

Turning northward oof

The breeze now a hurricane

Spinning gone just mash

Head down chest heaving

Turn ahead, a copse of trees

Relief, rest, home soon

_______________

Cars and trucks rush by

Honks and cheers they cry I think

You walk on sidewalk

_______________

Hybrid car driving

Quietly sneaking beside

Your conscience scared me

_______________

Left right stop air brake

Look left right left back front turn

Start slow use helmet

________________

I like riding bikes

My friend and I like bikes

I enjoy bike club

________________

I love my new bike

It is red and black with gears

My bike is awesome!

The Wind

The wind,

Today, it was all around me.
Blowing this way and that.
And I just tucked into it,
And let it wrap me in it’s evil charms.

Granted,

I was not going very fast into the bosom of the beast,
But feeling its chilly embrace,
I knew she was somehow helping me
become a better person

                                    Chromazoid

This is from FGGF and describes quite well how I felt yesterday. Pushing against the North wind blowing in our snow falling today.

Bicycles on roof of salvage yard in Denver.

Jon at Grinderbikes wrote in his blog about a trip to a salvage yard with an obcene amout of old bikes in huge piles. Also that they had some on the roof laid out in rows. I asked him if he knew the address, his reply was “north of the old Childrens Hospital. I was riding with someone… and wasn’t paying attention to the streets”. So, I went to Google Earth and began looking. Lo and Behold! I think I found it.
